Sydney Lions C Reserve team scored 302 runs against WPHC



Sydney Lions C Reserve team dominated against West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club in the 2-day test match which concluded last Saturday at Glenheaven Oval.

Batting first WPHC scored 157 runs in 55 overs for the 1st inning. Sisira Kumara took 3 crucial wickets to unsettle the opposition's top order then Leg-spinning sensation Pratham Jagtap took another 3 back to back wickets to restrict the WPHC total to 157 runs.

Sydney Lions had only 13 overs remaining to bat on Day 1 however openers Gayan Thilakarahne and Sisira Kumara got a brisk start to the inning and the first 43 runs came in just 7 overs. Sisira scored 30 runs in 26 balls. Gayan scored 24 runs as well.

On Day 02, Sydney Lion's rapid start continued throughout the inning equalling the WPHC total only from 29 overs. Pradap Mutthusammy scored 40 runs to steady the run chase. Then the fun started when Jeewantha Kumar came into bat with the not-out batsman Anushka Wanigasuriya. These two batters put unbeaten 144 in just 14 overs with more than 10 runs per over smashing WPHC bowlers on all parts of the ground. Anushka scored a brilliant 73-ball 122* with 6 massive sixes and 15 fours. And Jeewantha scored 52* with 2 sixes and 7 fours.

Even though this was a 2 dayer test match, Sydney Lions scored 302 runs for 6 wickets in just 43 overs with more than 7 runs per over.

With 144 runs in the lead Sydney Lions invited WPHC to bat again, however, at the end of the day's play WPHC managed to score only 74 runs for 4 wickets leaving Sydney Lions with a 1st-inning victory.

Man of the match was Anushka Wanigasuriya for his brilliant unbeaten 122 runs.
